the world of shoe care
Step-by-step guide
High-quality leather shoes are made to accompany you for many years - provided they are cared for properly. With a little time, the right tools, and a quality shoe cream, the leather can be nourished, protected, and restored to its natural shine.
Caring for your shoes is more than a simple routine; it is a quiet ritual that preserves the character and craftsmanship of fine handmade footwear.
1. Preparation
Before you begin caring for your shoes, take a moment to create a pleasant working atmosphere. Pour yourself a glass of good wine and put on your apron to protect your clothing.
To prepare your shoes properly, follow these steps:
- Remove the laces carefully
- Insert suitable shoe trees to maintain their shape.
- Place the shoes on old newspaper or another protective surface.
Then, proceed with a thorough cleaning:
- Gently remove dust and dirt from the upper leather, welt, and sole using a soft bristle brush.
- Wipe the leather with a slightly damp, soft shoe cloth to remove any remaining residue.
A clean and well-prepared surface is essential, as it allows the care products to be absorbed evenly and ensures the best possible results.

2. Polishing the shoes
The next step focuses on the essential care and nourishment of the leather.
Applying shoe cream:
- Apply a coin-sized amount of shoe cream per shoe onto an application brush.
- Work the cream evenly into the upper leather using gentle, circular motions, ensuring full and consistent coverage.
For a flawless result, we recommend:
- to use a dedicated dark application brush exclusively for dark shoe creams.
- to use a separate light application brush exclusively for light shoe creams.
Last but not least... Do not overlook the detail:
- Treat the welt of the shoe with equal care.
- If your shoes feature a leather sole, condition it with a suitable leather balm to maintain suppleness and durability.
A smaller application brush is particularly well suited for these more delicate areas.
Once applied, allow the shoe cream to absorb for at least one hour. This resting period enables the leather to fully absorb the nourishing ingredients, enhancing its depth, suppleness, and natural finish.

3. The shine
After allowing sufficient time for absorption, the final step is polishing.
Using a polishing brush or a soft polishing glove, gently bring the leather to life with long, circular motions. Gradually, the characteristic shine of well-cared-for leather shoes begins to emerge.
This final stage not only enhances the visual appearance but also refines the depth and elegance of the leather, completing the care routine with a lasting, sophisticated finish.

4. Proper shoe storage
To complete the care routine, re-lace your shoes and store them in protective shoe bags. This helps shield them from dust, light, and potential surface damage.
Leave the shoe trees inside the shoes to maintain their natural shape and structure. This ensures that your shoes remain in optimal condition, ready to be worn again at any time.
